Central Middle School teacher Lynn Neumeister was named the 2016 Middle School Social Studies Teacher of the Year at the recent Oklahoma Council for Social Studies (OCSS) annual state conference.

She joined Edmond Public Schools in 1995 and has always taught middle school.  “Neumo” as her students and parents refer to her teaches geography and U.S. History at Central.

“I especially love to teach geography because the subject changes yearly depending on what is happening with current events,” she said.

Neumeister’s commitment to the improvement of social studies goes beyond her classroom. She has served for many years on the district’s social studies vertical team, assisting with the creation of lessons, instructional strategies and developing benchmark assessments.  In addition, she has served on state testing and assessment committees.  Central named her Site Teacher of the Year in 2013-2014.

“She is, without doubt, an educator who will leave a legacy of positive change behind her. Through her hard work and dedication to social studies, she has impacted thousands of children and continues to do so each and every day in her classroom,” said Pam Merrill, retired Edmond Social Studies Curriculum Specialist.

“No one goes into teaching to receive awards. To be recognized with this award is very humbling,” Neumeister said.
