New Toys are Unloaded into a Classroom at the new Employee Child Care Center

Edmond’s new employee child care center opens in early August, just in time for employees to return for the start of the 2023-2024 school year.

“This new center eliminates the barrier to employment experienced by so many educators and support staff,” Superintendent Angela Grunewald said. “Our employees are our family, and we want to do everything possible to provide them the benefits they need to be successful.”

The center, serving children six weeks to four years old, is located at 45 E. 12th Street in Edmond, the site of the district’s former PreK Center. The interior rooms and playground have been improved and the center has all new furniture and toys. Most importantly, the center is in full compliance with state-required rules and regulations.

Holly Watson, a graduate of Edmond schools with 15 years of early childhood administration is the director of the center. She’s been busy for several months hiring and training staff including a curriculum coordinator who has experience in early child care education.

“We are focused on making this a second home for the kids - a quality place where parents feel comfortable leaving their children while they are at work in our schools,” Watson said.

The child care center is open from 6:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m. during all teacher contract days through teacher record day. It is closed over all breaks, snow days, and remote learning days.

The child care center is among a host of employee benefits provided by Edmond Public Schools.
